Efforts to find the missing Metro-East woman are “urgent,” the sheriff’s department says

She left her home around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, telling others she was taking her dog for a walk. But the dog was still at home when friends reported and Brittany Moeser has not been seen since.

Authorities in Washington County are “urgently seeking” help in locating a woman reported missing Moeser, 36, who lives in Clarmin, an unincorporated area in the southwest corner of Washington County, between Marissa and Tilden near Illinois 13. She has unspecified medical conditions that “seriously compromise her mental and physical well-being,” according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Family members reported Moeser was missing and indicated she may have been armed, “prompting emergency responders to exercise extreme caution during initial search efforts.”

“Despite extensive search operations involving numerous search and rescue organizations from St. Clair, Washington and Randolph counties, as well as the Eureka, Missouri Search and Rescue Team, Brittany Moeser has not yet been located,” Sheriff Schultze said in the news release.

Search efforts, which included Illinois State Police pilots and drone teams from Irvington and Coulterville, covered more than 500 acres of land, according to the release.

Moeser is 6 feet tall, weighs about 200 pounds and has light red hair.

Schultze was not immediately available to answer follow-up questions Wednesday afternoon, a sheriff’s department dispatcher said.

“It is imperative to note that although Brittany has previously left home, she has always maintained contact with her family members,” the release said. “However, her current disappearance is concerning due to her known medical conditions, which greatly compromise her mental and physical well-being.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at (618) 327-8264, extension 4.
