A Newton parishioner will spend some time behind bars after pleading guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor count of child endangerment.

Alicia Budreaux, 32, was sentenced to 30 days in jail followed by probation.

The conviction stems from an incident in which Budreaux left five children alone in a poorly heated mobile home on Kings Drive.

One of them was only one year old, which is where the child endangerment charge comes from.

According to prosecutors, the one-year-old child suffered from hypothermia.

As for sentencing, Budreaux could have faced three years in prison for her crime.
