Why didn’t the woman pay the bill?

The middle-aged woman reportedly ate at a high-end coffee restaurant in the mall and was unable to pay.

In a video of her kneeling while surrounded by restaurant workers, she protested that she couldn’t afford to pay.

She can be heard repeatedly pleading, “Please. Please…” in the inaudible clip before a good Samaritan steps forward to save her.

The Samaritan, a sharply dressed woman in green, hands her what appears to be a KSh 1,000 note and asks her to stand up.

According to the video’s creator, @Ninja, the woman paid the bill shortly afterwards.

“The lady ate in Java… and for some reason couldn’t pay… but a good Samaritan paid the bill… God bless the lady in green and her friend,” Ninja said.

However, it was not clear whether she was held down by the staff or forced to kneel.

What happens if you refuse to pay the bill in Kenya?

The incident comes three months after a man was charged before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi for failing to pay a hotel bill of KSh460,000.

Leaven Namayi Lubanga allegedly obtained credit from the Pan Pacific Service Suites Hotel in Westlands on various dates between December 30, 2023 and January 10, 2024.

Lubanga allegedly checked into the hotel for 12 days by falsely pretending he was able to pay.

He claimed that he received a job offer to do social media marketing for a sum of KSh 124,000 for a month.

He denied the charges and was granted bail of KSh 300,000.
