Kuwaiti plane delivers 50 tons of medical aid to Sudan

A Kuwaiti plane carrying 50 tons of medical and food aid landed in Port Sudan on Tuesday, the Sudanese Ministry of Health confirmed.

The shipment, including ambulances, was received by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Sudan Fahad Al-Zafiri and Khalil Mohamed Ibrahim, the Undersecretary of the Sudanese Ministry of Health, among other officials and humanitarian workers.

During the event, Am. Al-Zafiri also announced the resumption of the activities of the Embassy of Kuwait in Port Sudan.

“The Kuwaiti airlift is loaded with medical aid, food supplies and equipped ambulance vehicles and stood under the slogan ‘Kuwait stands with Sudan’,” he said. “Kuwait launched an airlift in May last year and was the first country to send an airlift of relief supplies to Port Sudan Airport to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese.”

For his part, Khalil Mohamed Ibrahim, undersecretary at Sudan’s Ministry of Health, praised Kuwait for the assistance.

“Today (Tuesday) we are receiving a plane from the sister state of Kuwait carrying medical aid estimated at 50 tons or more, including various medical devices and equipment, as well as some food, dates and three ambulance vehicles,” he confirmed. .

Mohamed said the airlift marks one year since the outbreak of war in the country on April 15, 2023. He added that they also received a similar donation from Kuwait in May last year and thanked the Kuwaiti government and people for gesture.

However, the official said Sudan needs more aid to meet its estimated $50 million monthly budget for its medical sector.

Meanwhile, Sadiq Adam Ibrahim, Acting Commissioner General for Humanitarian Aid, said the donation will support and improve the health and humanitarian situation in Sudan.
